1.	Gaining control of the body and learning to walk are the basic tasks of the first year. We can notice how control spreads from the head downward: starting first with the eyes, then the neck, then the trunk in learning to roll over, and finally the legs in learning to creep, crawl, and walk. Developmental therapists now tell us that children who bypass the crawling stage often have coordination and learning disabilities in later life.
