I will suggest that you not lie down while casting unless you want a permanent reminder that your breasts were decidedly unperky. To that end, I wore a bikini top (covered with a plastic trash bag) for mine so that the girls had a little more, ahem, lift, shall we say. I'm not terribly artistic, so I left mine white, but the sky's the limit if you're creative. At what point in my pregnancy should I make one? Making a belly cast is usually done 3-4 weeks before your due date, but you could also make multiple belly casts to capture the miraculous and/or strange changes in your body throughout your pregnancy. Many couples enjoy making a belly cast or mask together, providing the father with a unique bonding opportunity with your baby. And I wouldn't suggest doing this one alone! I love the belly cast! This was my third child and I feel guilty that I didn't do one on my first two kids :( As a mom, I think that it would have been so cool to "see" what mom looked like pregnant with me....

I have made a belly cast with all of my pregnancies and this company has been around for years. Easy to use, but messy, but that also is part of the fun. There is a drop cloth and gloves in the kit. There is more than enough casting material in the kit and I could make 2 casts with one kit. I wrote an e-mail to the company about decorating one of my casts and they were very prompt and helpful in writing back with suggestions. They now have an entire picture gallery on their site at [...] as well as a tips page!

I love this product and the final outcome made me really happy. My husband and I were able to do it with just the two of us. I helped as well. If you're not able to help your partner see if you can get an extra person to do it with the both of you. I suggest wearing a bra if you don't want your nipples to be obvious or you want a more "perfect" shape. The plaster does not ruin clothing and it washes off easily.
Vasoline does work well if you don't have enough salve. I did two casts because there was enough plaster to do two, I also have one roll left. One thing that really helps is if you do a quick "exo-skeleton" of the your belly then let that dry for 24 hours. Then go back, and add more plaster to make it smoother and stronger. I couldn't sit down when we did the cast because it hurt my back too much so I stood up the whole time. I got too tired so we stopped. It didn't come out too smooth so that's why I did the shell of it then added more later. By adding another coat of plaster when it was not on me I was able to smooth it out more and fix up the edges without having to cut it later.
I recommend this product to everyone. It's a great project to work on with your partner and it's a real bonding moment with your child. I especially love decorating it because it eases my anxiety about finally meeting my child. I am able to use this as a distraction from the anxiety of nesting and I love working on something that reminds me of my impending meeting with my child.

This product was well put together. Was easy to use but would have been better if there was a certain amount of cream the pregnant woman had to put on. Overall great product!

This was our third cast for the third child. Only 1 of 5 plaster rolls was proper in terms of the consistency it became after being soaked in water. The other four remained hard and crumbly, even after soaking individual pieces for 15 minutes (the good roll became right as soon as it hit the water). We were unable to get a good cast out of this kit. We got one good layer with the good roll, and our attempt at a second layer resulted in a falling apart mess. SO Diapppointing!
